St Luke’s Academy have recently hosted a visit from the ‘Owen’s World Foundation’.
The charity spent a morning in our school teaching our students about the impact of carrying knives and emphasising the importance of ‘Lives not Knives’ through sharing their heart wrenching story.
In December 2022, tragedy struck when Owen fell victim to a fatal stabbing in Swindon's Haydon End area; this hit the community very hard. In response, his family and closest friends came together and launched the ‘Owen's World Foundation.’ This charity aims to inform, educate and support the local community and beyond about the dangers and impact of knives.
The BBC came into St Luke’s to do a feature on our school and interviewed several of our students and staff to find out what their thoughts were regarding carrying knives and the impact this has in society. St Luke’s featured in the local news both on TV and radio.
The BBC were thoroughly impressed by our school as were the charity. Our students were articulate and thoughtful in their responses, and we continue to reference this important subject through our PSHE curriculum and assemblies.
